ANAMBRA STATE GOVT DISTRIBUTES CHRISTMAS RICE TO WORKERS

Governor Willie Obiano has called on public and civil servants in Anambra State to be hardworking and shun corruption in their places of work.

The Governor made the call at the launch of the distribution of Christmas gifts to workers in the state at Jerome Udorji Secretariat Awka.

Governor Obiano encouraged workers to help increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and assist government to block all revenue leakages and report people that divert government revenues.

The Governor charged them to be cost conscious to reduce the recurrent expenditure and shun corruption in a bid to move the state forward, warning that government would not continue accommodate unproductive workers.

While lamenting that year 2020 had been a tough one because of the pandemic confronting the world and Nigeria, the Governor noted that the current recession in the country had set a lot of things back and affected IGR.

He called for attitudinal change among public and civil servants saying that he had made workers welfare a priority of his administration.

Governor Obiano, however, expressed sadness that most people did not observe the COVID-19 protocol, pointing out that the disease had claimed many of lives.

In a remark, the State Head of Service, Mr. Harry Udu, who said the day was for stock taking, pointed out that workers were the main engine of governance and economic stability of the State.

Mr. Udu assured the workers that government would continue to reward loyalty, productivity, discipline and excellence.

He thanked the Governor for his continuous promotion of the welfare of public servants through prompt payment of salaries; pension and gratuity; promotion and annual largesse of bags of rice for Christmas celebration, among others.

Mr. Udu expressed joy that in spite of the COVID-19 and #EndSARS protest and recession in the country, the state government still appreciated civil servants.

Also in a speech, the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Mr Pius Udoh, stressed that the day was important because it recognized the value and virtue of service, and promised to assist government achieve it’s mission statement.

Seven Anambra State public servants who were honored by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in the 2020 Nigeria Public Sector Leadership and Productivity Award were recognized by the Governor.
