ANAMBRA STATE GOVT COMMITTED TO EMPOWERING THE GIRL CHILD

Anambra State Government says it will continue to create an enabling environment for children to thrive irrespective of their gender.

The Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Joe Akabuike stated this while addressing newsmen in Awka, on the Day of the Girl-Child, 2018.

According to him, the objectives of the  celebration was, to raise awareness on issues facing girls internationally like education, nutrition, child marriage, and meaningful participation of girls in decisions that affect them.

Dr Akabuike highlighted ways the global community could develop skilled Girl Force to include: inclusive education and training of the girl-child.

The Commissioner explained that the State Ministry of Health would use the opportunity of the celebration to educate adolescent girls and boys   on the dangers of cultism, alcohol, drug abuse and effects of unwanted pregnancy.
