ANAMBRA HOUSEThe Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioners for Works, Mr. Lawrence Chinwuba and Environment , Princess Chinwe Nwaebili to ensure that the water way at Ngozika Estate in Awka  is dredged to avoid an impending danger.

Addressing the House, under a matter of urgent public importance, the Member  representing Nnewi  South One Constituency, Mr. Kingsley Iruba explained that the extent of damage at the Estate last year was terrible and shocking .

In supporting the motion, the member representing Onitsha North  One Constituency, Mr. Chugbo Enwezo insisted that the Contractor handling the job should immediately go back to site to avoid loss of lives.

In a related development, the House called on the State Governor to direct the State Waste Management Authority to urgently position more waste bins at strategic places in the State.

The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida who sponsored the motion observed that lack of waste bins at some places had made shop owners and inhabitants of the areas to be using public drains as refuse receptacles which often resulted in environmental pollution and health hazards.

Members of the House were unanimous in supporting the motion.

Meanwhile, a bill to use banks and banks point of sale in collecting taxes, levies and other related matters has passed first reading.

Correspondent Kevin Ekediegwu reports that the bill seeks to increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the State and put to an end the diversion of the State revenue to private pockets.
