The Anambra State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, Extra Judicial killings and other Related Matters has adjourned sitting indefinitely.

The Chairman of the Panel, Retired Justice Veronica Umeh, who made the announcement during the panel’s sitting on Tuesday November 17, said the decision was to allow government put necessary logistics in place for efficient discharge of the onerous task before the panel.

She told the petitioners, counsels and other observers that they could no longer sit until the needful was done.

Hear the Panel Chairman:

“We will have to discontinue sitting because of logistics reasons, we will not sit until the needful is done,”

A probono lawyer and counsel to four petitioners, who attended the session, Mr. Abdul Mamoud, expressed regret that the government did not consider the suitability of the venue before designating a hall for such all important assignment.

He noted that the venue did not have the necessary facility and convenience for counsels, petitioners and committee members.

“My Lord, I understand the challenges you are facing, I am disappointed that the panel cannot give me a bottle of water. This panel is supposed to serve every petitioner at least a bottle of water,” Mr. Mamoud lamented.

The Judicial Panel had been sitting at the main hall of the Anambra State Association of Town Union situated within the Government House Awka.
