ADEQUATE FUNDING OF THE HEALTH SECTOR ADVOCATED

The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu says the deteriorating condition of health facilities in the country is worrisome and requires adequate fund to address.

Chief Ekweremadu stated this at a free medical outreach organized for the people of Aninri, Awgu and Oji River Federal Constituency at Joint Hospital Achi, in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The patients are being treated of various ailments by medical experts under the auspices of Doctors on the Move Africa, facilitated by the Member representing Aninri, Awgu and Oji River Federal Constituency, Chief Toby Okechukwu.

Speaking on the importance of such projects especially to the less privileged, Chief Ekweremadu said the number of people who presented themselves each time such exercise was organized was an indication that something was wrong with the sector.

He called on various governments to come up with active policies that would ensure that health facilities across the country were effective to save lives.

Collaborating the views of the Deputy President of the Senate, the facilitator of the exercise, Chief Toby Okechukwu said it would be held annually to enable more people to benefit.
Earlier, the Team Leader, Doctors on the Move Africa, Dr Joseph HarunaKigbu regretted that most of the patients attended to were living with diseases that could be controlled if there were functional healthcare facilities and called on government at all levels to rise up to the challenge.

In an interview, the Hospital Administrator, Joint Hospital Achi, Reverend Father TochukwuUgonna and a former Commissioner in the State, Dr Godwin Udeuhele described the intervention by the lawmaker as purposeful and urged him to sustain the tempo.

Some of the beneficiaries commended the donor for remembering them and called for the establishment of more health facilities to reduce the sufferings of those in search of quality healthcare.

More than four thousand indigent patients are reported to have benefited from the exercise which will end on Friday, the 6th of April, 2018.
