A transport Loan Artisan Support Scheme has been introduced by the Abia State Government.
known as the Abia State Easy Taxi Programme, the scheme is aimed at addressing challenges hampering the growth of the transport sector of the state.
At the launch of the scheme in Umuahia, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu stressed the need to use the vehicles for the purpose they were meant for.
Governor Ikpeazu explained that only genuine drivers were considered in distributing the taxis as it was not for politicians.
He charged the State Ministry of Transport to organize special training for the drivers for efficient services.
The Commissioner for Transport, Chief Kingsley Imaga, noted that the vehicles were digitized and would be monitored from a control room.
A total of 50 taxis were distributed in the first batch while the government promised to give out more in the next phase of the scheme.
