ABIA STATE GOVT CONFIRMS DEATH OF PDP GUBER CANDIDATE

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has confirmed the death of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 general election in the state, Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday January 2023 at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.

In a statement issued by the Governor, he condole with the family of the late Professor of Optometry, the PDP family and general public.

Dr. Ikpeazu pray God to have mercy on his soul, grant him eternal rest and give everyone affected by his unfortunate demise the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Governor said that as mark of honour to the departed PDP Governorship candidate all flags in Abia State PDP offices be lowered and flown at half mast while all campaign activities for the party at all levels be suspended until Monday, 30th January, 2023.

He urged all PDP leaders and members to remain calm as they navigate through this difficult period together.

Earlier, late Professor Ikenne’s son, Dr. Uche Chikezie Ikonne announced the death of his father Professor Ikonne, who said died during a brief illness at the National Hospital Abuja.

According to the statement, he was recovering after treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrest for which he did not recover from.
