A CONSTITUTION TO GUARANTEE TRUE SEPARATION OF POWER ADVOCATED

A New constitution that will address the noticeable imbalances in the country and guarantee true separation of powers has been advocated.

Guests on Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Political Programme “Political Watch” made the submission.

One of them, an Elder Statesman, Chief Nduka Eya insisted that the constitution which the country was currently operating with did not address some basic issues which characterised the nation’s political system.

According to Chief Eya, why it appears there is friction is because the constitution arrogates more powers to the government at the centre.

Another guest, the Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Publicity and Enlightenment, Doctor Malachy Chuma Ochie said the constitution of Nigeria was the major hindrance to separation of power.

The Director General, Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr. Osita Okechukwu noted that the nation’s constitution was not the problem of the country but inability of the political class to work together and purge their hearts of indifference.

Callers in the Programme called for respect among the arms of government to sustain the nation’s democracy.
