50 schools without pupils: discovered by Oyo State
Oyo State Government said it has discovered 50 schools in the state with full complement of teachers but without pupils.
Briefing journalists on Monday at the Governor’s office, Ibadan, the state capital, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,
Prof Adeniyi Olowofela, said findings by the education committee revealed that 10,000 primary school teachers are redundant.
Prof Olowofela who came in company of Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Abimbola Kolade and Commissioner for Land, Housing and Urban Development, Ajiboye Omodewu after the State Executive Council meeting, however, pointed out that those with additional qualifications among them would be redeployed to junior secondary schools.
On the issue of no automatic promotion in public schools, Olowofela insisted that there was no going back, saying mass failure among the students necessitated the step.
