50 schools without pupils: discovered by Oyo State

oyo-govOyo State Government said it has discovered 50 schools in the state with full complement of teachers but without pupils.
Briefing journalists on Mon­day at the Governor’s office, Ibadan, the state capital, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,
Prof Adeniyi Olowofela, said find­ings by the education commit­tee revealed that 10,000 primary school teachers are redundant.
Prof Olowofela who came in company of Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tour­ism, Toye Arulogun; Commis­sioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Abim­bola Kolade and Commissioner for Land, Housing and Urban Development, Ajiboye Om­odewu after the State Execu­tive Council meeting, however, pointed out that those with ad­ditional qualifications among them would be redeployed to junior secondary schools.
On the issue of no automatic promotion in public schools, Olowofela insisted that there was no going back, saying mass failure among the students ne­cessitated the step.
