3 die, landlord survives as building collapses in Anambra

A two-stawka collapseorey building under construction at Ndiagu in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has collapsed, killing three workers. It was gathered that the owner of the building and two others narrowly escaped death as they were on site supervising workers when the building went down. An eyewitness said they sustained severe injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Those that rushed to the scene of the incident and assisted in the rescue mission included the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma and the Divisional Police Officer in Ogidi, Mr. Hassan Musa. Karma, who said the deaths were “unfortunate and untimely,” urged the people in the area to take heart and prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead. The police boss said that the corpses had been taken to Iyi-Enu Hospital’s morgue. President-General of Ogidi community, Chief Chuka Onubogu, blamed the incident on substandard materials. He appealed to contractors and those involved in building projects to ensure that genuine materials were used.
