2018 MEASLES VACCINATION COMMENCES IN ANINRI LGA, ENUGU STATE
Mothers and caregivers in Enugu State are advised to ensure that their children and wards are immunized in the on-going 2018 Measles Vaccination.
A Consultant in the State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Ugochukwu Nwokoro, gave the advice during the commencement of the exercise in Aninri Local Government Area.
According to Dr Nwokoro, measles is a highly contagious viral disease which can result in deafness, damage of brain and death among children.
He commended the efforts of the State and Local Governments to prevent the deadly disease through the on-going vaccination campaign and urged parents of Under 5 children to take advantage of the opportunity.
Addressing some mothers and caregivers that gathered at Mpu Health Centre, where the exercise commenced, the Immunization Officer in Aninri Local Government, Mr. Eusebuis Offor, explained other measures put in place to ensure that no eligible child was not left out.
In their separate speeches, the wife of the Chairman, Aninri Local Government, Mrs. Dorothy Chukwu and the traditional ruler of Anekeorji Mpu, Igwe David Ajah, appealed to parents to co-operate with the immunization officers to achieve the desired result.
At the commencement of the campaign, the Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area, Chief Ezekiel Chukwu, noted that the State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, had declared state of emergency on measles in the State and promised to replicate the same in the area.
The event featured road show across the five communities that make up Aninri to sensitize the people to the campaign and the distribution of items including washing basins and toiletries to nursing mothers.
