GLOBAL COMMUNITY MARKS WORLD OCEANS DAY
United Nations member states observe today as “World Oceans Day”.
June eight was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in two thousand and eight as a day to raise awareness on the importance of oceans and the major role they play in sustaining a healthy planet.
The Day is also set aside to create awareness on the impact of human actions on the oceans and develop worldwide measures to help protect and conserve them.
The theme of this year’s campaign is “Preventing Plastic Pollution and Encouraging Solutions for a Healthy Ocean.”
