Women have been advised to avoid indiscriminate use of oral contraceptives.
A Medical Practitioner in AbohMbaise, Imo State, Doctor Shia Azuokorie stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Owerri.
Doctor Azuokorie said indiscriminate use of oral contraceptives was responsible for the increasing cases of breast cancer among women.
He defined breast cancer as an abnormal growth of tissue on the part of the body due to overgrowth of a cell.
He however maintained that not every abnormal growth of tissue in the body was cancerous.
Doctor Azuokorie enumerated symptoms of breast cancer to include; lump in the breast, abnormal discharge, redness or dimples on the outer part of the organ as well as pain in the breast.
According to him, other factors such as obesity and lack of exercise can also cause breast cancer.
Doctor Azuokorie however called on women to embrace natural family planing methods to stay healthy.
