Federal Government To Commence Rehabilitation Programme In North East

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to commence Psycho-social rehabilitation programme to provide support to victims of mental/Psychological Trauma at hospitals in areas affected by the on-going insurgency in the country.

The Minister of State Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, made this known while on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Headquarters, Abuja.

Dr. Ehanire stated that his visit was to seek full partnership and a platform of working together with relevant Departments and Agencies to respond to health emergency needs of Nigerian citizens.

He stressed that there was need for serious collaboration and synergy among various Agencies of government involved in protecting Nigerians from man-made and natural disaster noting that health emergency response and disaster management could only thrive through a unified platform.

Receiving the Minister, the elated Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi G. Muhammadu, who described the visit as unique being that it coincided with the International Civil Defence Day celebration pledged to partner with Ministry of Health in order to take emergency responds to the next level.

The first mandate of NSCDC is Disaster management and protection of critical national assets including Hospitals, the Minister informed.
