NSUKKA LEADERS ECHO CALL FOR RESTRUCTURING

Residents of Nsukka in Enugu State have joined in the call for restructuring of the country to improve economy, security and quell agitations across the country.

Respondents also sounded it loud and clear that the unity of the nation should not be compromised as they suggested improvement in the economic, social and political life of the nation.

A former Deputy Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Chief David Atigwe, said that the nation should be restructured by rebuilding the country’s electoral and political party systems with the view of making political offices less attractive.

The former lawmaker further stated that only those who had the calling and desire to serve as well as people with proven integrity should get the power.

Also, the traditional ruler of Leja Community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Igwe Anthony Ochike, noted that the agitation for secession would not be the answer to the country’s problems suggesting that federating units should be able to generate their revenue, take care of security and their economic needs.

He therefore urged the Federal Government to start the process of actualizing the 2014 National Conference which touched most issues bedeviling the nation.

The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, the Most Reverend Godfrey Onah, who said there was the need to ensure social justice in the nation, blamed the political class for poor governance of the country.

Bishop Onah also said that Nigeria should come up with an equitable federation where each ethnic group would live in any part of the country without fear of molestation and intimidation.

The man of God further stated that addressing the nation’s challenges, the country’s leaders should embark on programme that would promote peace unity and development.
