IGP ORDERS ARREST, PROSECUTION OF PERSONS SELLING FUEL IN CONTAINERS

The Inspector-General black marketersof Police, Solomon Arase, has directed all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and commissioners of police to arrest anybody found selling petroleum products in plastic containers.

The police boss, in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, said: “Apart from the hardship the act was causing to fuel buyers, it had also rendered some innocent and law-abiding citizens homeless due to fire from petrol stored in jerry cans.”

He noted that fuel products such as petrol, were highly flammable and if not stored and handled properly, could seriously endanger people, property and the environment. While warning fuel attendants at filling stations to desist from selling petrol in jerry cans and plastic containers, Arase said both buyers and sellers of the products would be arrested and prosecuted under the law.

The IGP, while assuring Nigerians of police readiness to fulfill its constitutional mandate, appealed for a more cordial relationship.
