NMA & JOHESU IN WAR OF WORDS OVER ONGOING STRIKE IN FEDERAL HOSPITALS

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA Enugu branch has described the ongoing industrial action by the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU as inimical to medical profession and the wellbeing of Nigerians.

It made its position known while reacting to the actions of the Union in Enugu.

The State Chairman of the Association, Doctor Cajetan Onyedum alleged that the striking union had been harassing patients who sought Medicare in hospitals, describing the act as barbaric.

Doctor Onyedum who maintained that doctors would never be intimated from performing their professional duties, called on Chief Medical Directors of various hospitals and security agencies to rise to the challenge.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, in Enugu State, Comrade Ben Asogwa has faulted the allegations of the Nigerian Medical Association, describing it as unfounded.

He explained that the striking Union never harassed patients that sought Medicare, nor assaulted any doctor but only embarked on picketing in hospitals.

Comrade Asogwa who is also the Secretary, Trade Union Congress, Enugu State Chapter further explained that the industrial action was not against the Nigeria Medical Association, but to ensure improvement in their welfare package.

The ongoing industrial action by JOHESU has crippled many activities in Federal hospitals across the country.
