ENUGU STATE APPROVES COUNTERPART FUND TO ENHANCE INFANT & MATERNAL HEALTH

The Enugu State Government has approved the sum of ₦8.5 million counterpart fund to improve and sustain Free Newborn and Maternal Health Care Program in the area.

The fund according to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fintan Ekochin, would be an additional sum to the ₦8.5 million usually contributed monthly by the seventeen Local Government Councils in the State for the health care program.

Dr. Ekochin who briefed Journalists on the resolutions of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, explained that the counterpart fund would be beneficial in the reactivation of some moribund Primary Health Care Centres.

The Commissioner of Health further announced the accreditation of the School of Basic Midwifery Awgu and Bishop Shanahan School of Nursing and Midwifery, Nsukka by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe, said that the State Executive Council entertained presentations from some investment companies who seek to explore some natural resources and to commence the production of fertilizer in the State.
