FAKE IMMUNIZATION OFFICERS ARRESTED IN ABIA STATE

Two persons allegedly involved in illegal immunization of school children at Owerrinta, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State have been arrested and handed over to the police by officials of the State Ministry of Health.

Abia State Commissioner for Health, Dr. John Ahukanna, announced this at a media briefing in Umuahia.

Dr. Ahukanna alleged that the two suspects were immunizing children against hepatitis B at a fee of ₦1,000.00 per person, noting that individuals were not authorized to engage in any kind of immunization as it was the responsibility of the State Ministry of Health.

He made it clear that no immunization campaign was currently going on in any part of the state, stressing that the Ministry got sample of the vaccine used by the suspects for investigation to ensure that it was not dangerous to health.

On Lassa Fever, the Commissioner explained that the state did not have any recorded index case of the disease despite the apprehension among people in the state.
