When Radio Nigeria visited the scene of the mishap, neighbours and men of the fire Service were on the ground to help contain the fire.
An eye witness, Mr. Celestine Ugwu, attributed the cause of the fire to suspected high voltage experienced in the area when power was restored.
Another eye witness, a young girl, who simply gave her name as Esther lamented that the fire had destroyed their shop located in front of the building.
One of the tenants of the building who was affected by the fire was seen searching for her file documents in the debris.
