GOVERNOR UMAHI CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS FOR WORKERS IN GRAND STYLE

i State Government is to pay its workers 50% of their basic salaries as 2018 January bonus in addition to ₦10,000 Christmas package.
Governor David Umahi announced this at the State Civil Servant Grand rally and Christmas party organized by the State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress at Pa Ngele Township Stadium Abakaliki.
Chief Umahi explained that the State Government had prioritized the welfare of workers as the January bonus was to help them overcome economic hardship often experienced in the New year.
“It is a holding- down hope for January so that you start to hold yourself till 15th of January when you collect your salary.”
Chief Umahi State that 70% of gratuities owed retirees in the State had been cleared while severance package would be paid to former public office holders both at the State and Local Government levels.
“We have directed the relevant local government officials to compile all severance allowances owed to people; public office holders at these two levels of government so that we can look into it as directed by God.”
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Leonard Nkah described the Governor as worker-friendly, noting that no worker in the State was being owed salary.
At the event the Governor was conferred with a chieftaincy title of “a friend of the workers.”
