Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed continued support to law enforcement agencies to ensure the state remains a safe haven for residents and investors.
He also expects the state to be a danger zone for criminals and kidnappers.
To this end, machineries are in motion to establish a Command and Control Center in the state to strengthen intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
Governor Otti announced this during a National Press Conference at Government House Umuahia, when he received four kidnapped victims.
They were rescued by operatives of the Abia State Police Command who neutralized six suspected kidnappers in a gun battle in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Otti, who wondered how such unholy activity could go unnoticed, directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to interface with the traditional ruler of the area to enhance security.
The Governor ordered the immediate prosecution of the landlord of the bungalow where the act was perpetrated as well as its demolition.
He commended the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danladi Isa, and his team for their professionalism and bravery in ensuring the safe return of the victims and reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the State.
Earlier the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Danladi Isa, presented the rescued victims and the tactical team members of the Nigeria Police to the Governor.
Mr. Isa explained how the Police successfully rescued the four kidnapped victims and neutralized six suspected kidnappers following a swift tactical intervention.
The Commissioner said the four victims were kidnapped on March 9, 2025 along the New Umuahia Road in Obingwa by unknown gunmen who intercepted their vehicle and took them to an undisclosed location.
According to the Police Commissioner, the Command acting on intelligence, exploited advanced tracking technology provided through the State Government support to launch a manhunt for the criminals.
Answering questions from journalists, one of the rescued victims on behalf of others narrated their ordeals in the hands of the kidnappers and lauded the brave efforts of the operative of Abia state command during the gun battle.
He appealed to Governor Alex Otti to continue being supportive to security agencies in the state.
