9,200 residents of Abia State are to benefit from one billion naira Revolving Loan scheme set aside by the state government to empower them to improve their lots.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, who announced this while briefing journalists at government House, Umuahia on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting said the revolving loan would come in phases.

According to Prince Kanu, 50 beneficiaries would be selected from each of the one hundred and 84 wards of the state.

The Commissioner noted that the financial empowerment would have positive effect on the Abia State economy.

While condemning the increasing rates of vandalism on public schools and property in the state, Prince Kanu urged residents, town union executive and others stakeholders to take ownership of the public schools in their communities.

The Commissioner for Information and his counterpart, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, jointly condemned the menace and crimes associated with the activities of street traders and illegal motor park operators in Aba and Umuahia.

They said the state government would begin enforcing its policies of banning their operations.

On the alleged rumours making the rounds that Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Mike Akpara, takes home N10 million monthly as salary, the Commissioner debunked the rumour, insisting that he or other Abia State Government officials never received such amount.
