Abia State Government has commissioned for construction the first phase of the Abia Urban Renewal and Transport Project.
This is to ensure harmonized transport system in Aba, the economic nerve centre of the state.
Inaugurating the project at the Aba Mega Mall Premises on the Osisioma axis of the Enugu/Port Harcourt express way, Governor Alex Otti said the project was aimed at bringing improved inter and intra city transport ecosystem in the urban areas of the state and ease traffic congestion in the commercial City.
The Governor noted that the project underscores the commitment of his administration in setting standard in social service delivery, noting that when completed, it would solve a lot of problems associated with uncontrolled movement of heavy duty vehicles into the city centres.
According to the Governor, the new systems when operational will guarantee safety of road users, security of goods in transit as well as free flow of traffic.
The Governor pointed out that the state government would fund the development of associated transports, including the bus stations, laybys and would work with the private sector partners in the acquisition of vehicles, operations and maintenance.
Governor Otti, who explained that the state government was making extensive investments in the development and restoration of the urban road infrastructure, noted that the success of the project would require the assistance of all stakeholders and called on the people to give necessary support to the Contractor to execute it on schedule.
