OVER 50,000 ABIA RURAL WOMEN BENEFIT FROM NFWP EMPOWERMENT

The Project Coordinator, Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP) Abia State, Mrs. Chinenye Amos-uhegbu says over fifty thousand rural women drawn from three local government areas of the state have benefited from the Project’s agricultural and off-farm programs in the state.

Mrs. Amos-uhegbu made this known this to journalists when she visited some of the beneficiaries of the project in Isialangwa North Local Government Area.

She said that the project was established to improve the livelihood of women, especially those in the rural areas of the country.

The Project Coordinator noted that the project has provided a livelihood grant of N60,00.00 to the beneficiaries under the Women Affinity Groups, which is made up of 15 to 25 women in each of the groups.

Mrs. Amos-uhegbu commended the Abia State Government for the payment of its counterpart fund for the project, noting that the women had been grouped under two value chains of cassava and palmoil processings.

A community leader and Champion Nigeria for Women Project Mbawsi in Isialangwa North Local Government, Pastor Nnamdi Alichie, acknowledged that the project had empowered women in the community greatly by assisting them with various skills to improve their livelihood.

One of the beneficiaries of the project, Mrs. Ezinma Akudo from Osusu village, expressed joy for being part of project and saying it has impacted positively on her.

The Nigeria For Women Project is currently being carried out in the six Geo-Political zones of the country.
