SOLUDO INAUGURATES TWO ROADS IN ONITSHA

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has inaugurated for public use the 5.1km Port Harcourt Road and Niger Street Onitsha in Onitsha South Local Government Area.

Inaugurating the roads, Governor Soludo highlighted the significance of the road to Onitsha residents and environs, being the largest commercial hub in West Africa.

The Governor noted that his administration was deliberate in regenerating Onitsha to its former glory.

Governor Soludo, who observed that the road was formerly in a state of disrepair, further pointed out that the construction of the two roads was highly significant due their potency of boosting commercial activities in the area and in aiding the smooth transportation of goods to the Onitsha Main Market.

Governor Soludo, while noting that 247km roads had so far been constructed of the over 400km awarded across the state, pointing out that the roads were meant to last for about 20years.

He charged residents to keep the roads and drains clean to enable free flow of water to the River Niger.

Earlier in a remark, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, thanked the Governor for the fulfilment of his campaign promises and passion of simultaneous construction of about 450km of roads across the state.

Also, the President General of Anambra State Marketers Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna, expressed delight with the construction of the road that leads to the Main Market and prayed for more wisdom and support for his administration.

The occasion witnessed a dramatic turn when the Governor requested that representatives of commercial tricycle (keke) drivers and shuttle buses to cut the tape, assisted by the clergy.

Meanwhile, Governor Soludo used the opportunity to visit the popular Ochanja Market, where he expressed satisfaction with the level of work in the area.

The Governor while speaking to residents and traders, maintained that the work was in fulfilment of his campaign promises of constructing quality roads as well as the provision of the needed infrastructural development across the state .

He also revealed that the long abandoned water scheme in various cities across the state were now revamped and simultaneously test- run at Awkwuzu, Agulu, Awka and Onitsha.
