EBONYI SENATORIAL BYE ELECTION: POLICE RESTRICTS MOVEMENT

Police in Ebonyi State have restricted human and vehicular movement from midnight of Friday FEB 2, 2024 to 6 PM of Saturday, 2024 across five local government areas where Senatorial Bye Election will take place Ebonyi South zone.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Mr. Joshua Ukandu, explained that the restriction was to ensure effective security management during the exercise.

According to the statement, the affected Council Areas are Afikpo, Edda, Ivo, Ohaozara and Onicha with security forces detailed to enforce the order till the election process is over.

The statement, however, explained that persons providing essential services such as INEC staff, accredited media and election observers, firefighters, ambulances were exempted from the restriction but must provide a valid means of identification.

It noted that the measure was to ensure public order and the safety of the electorate as well as to assist security agencies to effectively police and deter miscreants from disrupting the electoral process.

It warned members of the public to strictly adhere to the restriction order as any person or group of persons found violating it would be dealt with in line with the extant law.
