ANAMBRA STATE GOVT MOVES TO RELOCATE STREET TRADERS IN AWKA

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

Plans are on by the Anambra State Government to develop cluster sales points within Awka capital to accommodate displaced street traders.

To this end, government has designated various temporary locations for the traders, who had been causing obstructions in major roads across the capital city, to continue their businesses pending the completion of the cluster sales points.

The Head of Development Control, Awka Capital Territory Development Agency, (ACTDA), Mr. Charles Ekwunife, stated this when he led a team to sensitize members of the public to government policies towards making Awka a mega city.

According to the ACTDA boss, when the traders move into the designated places, it will be cheaper and safer for them rather than displaying their goods and wares on the streets of Awka.

Mr. Ekwunife directed shops and other business owners within the state capital to immediately use yellow Aluco board with black write ups as signposts in order to give the capital city a desirable outlook.

He said the aim of the state government was to have an organised uniformed city outlook as every shop is expected to give a distance of four foot from the drains across the state.
