REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi State has published the names of candidates of eight political parties that will participate in Ebonyi South Senatorial Election scheduled for February 3, 2024.
However, there were noticable changes as two more political parties were added to the six earlier announced by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Onyeka Ugochi, while briefing newsmen on INEC preparations few days ago in Abakaliki.
In the final list posted on the Notice Board at the INEC Office, Abakaliki, it was observed that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) had been added to the list.
According to the INEC document, Stella Njoku is the candidate of Action Democratic Congress, (ADC) while Professor Anthony Ani will fly the flag of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ifeanyi Eleje is the candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) while Uche Emmanuel Udeogu will contest on the platform of APP.
Labour Party (LP) candidate is Linus Okorie while Idam Leo Ogbonnia will fly the flag of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has Silas Onu as its candidate while Christian Uchechukwu Mba will represent Social Democratic Party (SDP).
It was however observed that the name of Action Alliance (AA) candidate, which was announced by INEC to be among parties that would field candidates was missing on the list.
When contacted, the Head of INEC Voter Education in Ebonyi State, Dr. Christian Elekwa, confirmed that there were changes as INEC Headquarters sent the names of two more political parties and their candidates.
