REPORTER: UCHE NEDEKE
The Police Command in Anambra State says it has commenced investigation to unravel those behind the burning of the palace of the traditional ruler of Iseke Community in Ihiala Local Government Area.
Eye witness account narrated that hoodlums came in their numbers in the evening and set ablaze the entire buildings within the palace of Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife.
Property, including vehicle and other valuables were all set ablaze while the residents of the community scampered for safety.
In an interview, the traditional ruler of Iseke, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife, described the incident as an unfortunate.
Igwe Nnabuife, while saying that the house was burnt by yet to be identified gunmen, noted that he had no problem with anyone in his community before the incident.
He, however, thanked God that no life was lost and nobody was harmed during the attack.
Confirming the incident in a telephone call with Radio Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, said investigation had commenced into the matter.
According to the Police Commissioner, security agencies have an ongoing operation at Ihiala, which may have forced the hoodlums to flee into Iseke, a neighbouring community to the border state.
The Commissioner of Police while assuring the people of the Iseke of total security protection, promised that the operation would be extended to liberate the entire area.
The incident was coming one week after a former convoy driver to late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, was allegedly kidnapped by gunmen after the funeral ceremony of his brother at the same Isseke community.
