SENATE COMMITTEE PROMISES TO PASS NYSC TRUST FUND BILL
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
The Senate says the National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund Bill when passed and signed into Law will ensure that funding for NYSC scheme comes from first line charge of the Federation Account.
The Senate Committee Chairman on Youth Development, Senator Yemi Aderomodu, stated this during an oversight visit by the committee members to NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Old Macgregor College Afikpo in Ebonyi State.
The Senator noted that the Trust Fund would address all the funding and logistics issues confronting the scheme and provide funding for discharged corps members, who participated in SAED programme and were desirous of setting up a trade for self reliance.
The State Coordinator of the Scheme, Pastor Foluke Oladeinde said the NYSC Orientation Camp was faced with numerous challenges, including lack of operational vehicles, electricity and dilapidated basic infrastructure.
Pastor Oladeinde pleaded with the state government to set up the NYSC State Governing Board to enable it interface with the management of the scheme on how to resolve some of the problems.
