GOV NWIFURU GIVES COMMISSIONER FOR ENVIRONMENT FINAL WARNING
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has threatened to sanction the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Victor Chukwu, over the filthy nature of the capital city of Abakaliki if he fails to clear all dump sites in the area in the next 24hours.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, explained that the directive had become necessary following the poor environmental condition of the capital city, which constituted health hazard.
It noted that the state government would no longer tolerate dirty environment in Abakaliki and its environs and warned the Commissioner to sit up as he would not be spared again.
“I want to warn the commissioner for Environment for the last time to sit up and do the work and get the environment clean because I will not spare him if found wanting this time around,” he threatened.
The Governor tasked residents of the state to cooperate with government and ensure strict compliance with environmental sanitation measures already in place.
“I therefore use this opportunity to urge residents of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians of the road and blocking of drainage system but should rather use designated dump sites,” Nwifuru cautioned.
According to the Governor, he will personally move round the city to ensure strict compliance to the directive.
