ENSURE REGULAR EYE CHECK— IKWO COUNCIL BOSS TELLS RURAL RESIDENTS

Ikwo Local Government Council in Ebonyi State is to strengthen partnership with the State Eye Health Committee to ensure availability, accessibility and affordability of eye care treatments and facilities across the Council area.
The Chairman, Ikwo Local Government Council, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo stated this at an event to mark 2023 World Sight Day organized in collaboration with Ebonyi State Eye Health Committee at Onuebonyi Echara, the Headquarters of Ikwo Local Government Area.
The Second Thursday of October is set aside annually to increase awareness of global eye health issues, which is used as an opportunity to render communal services and target special interest groups in eye care.
The Chairman of the Council, Mr. Nwankwo, emphasized the importance of eye check-up for all and urged people of the Council to make good use of eye hospitals whenever they noticed any unusual feelings about their eyes.
The Chairman, Ebonyi State Eye Health Committee, Dr. Ogbonnaya Iganga, said since their inauguration few weeks ago, Ikwo was their first port of call in such programme and lauded the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo for his will towards the realization of the programme
Free eye glasses and medications were distributed to the people that availed themselves of the opportunity at the screening centre.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Love Your Eyes.”
In another development, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo, has assured the Joint National Association of Persons With Disability, (JONAPWD) Ikwo LGA Chapter that his administration would evolve necessary mechanism to include them in the scheme of things in the Council.
Mr. Nwankwko, who spoke at the Council Headquarters, Onuebonyi Echara during the inauguration of JONAPWD Ikwo chapter, told the new executive to work for the benefit of all their members.
The State JONAPWD Chiarman, Comrade Franklin Odumagu represented by the Zonal Coordinator, Ebonyi Central, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwokporo, while inaugurating the new executive expressed gratitude to Ikwo Council Chairman for ensuring peaceful conduct of their election and subsequent inauguration of the Executive.
He advised them to be transparent and honest in handling the affairs of the Association.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of JONAPWD, Ikwo Local Government Area Chapter, Mr. Isaiah Nwokorah, appaluded the Ikwo Council Chairman for his fatherly role and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
