REPORTER: UCHE NEDEKE
The Anambra State House of Assembly has expressed satisfaction with the work done so far by the firm handling the construction of some roads in Awka, the state capital.
The Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor, stated this when he led other members on oversight function to the projects.
Mr. Nwafor noted that though there were some areas that needed to be revisited by the contractor, the quality of work done in general did not fall below standard.
He however expressed the hope that the contractor, would conform with government specifications and that of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria , (COREN).
The Project Manager, Mr. Samer Nabute, said the delay in the completion period of the roads was as a result of delay in demolition and other logistics, including changes in designs encountered earlier.
Mr. Samer, however, gave an assurance that the roads would all be delivered by December this year as they had done 70% of the work on site.
The law makers, including Mr. Golden Iloh, representing Ihiala Constituency II, Mr. Noble Igwe representing Ogbaru Constituency 1 and Chief Ejike Okechukwu of Anaocha Constituency II, expressed the hope that when completed, the road would give Awka, the state capital a unique status in terms of road Infrastructure.
