REPORTER: LAWRENCE NWOKEDI

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’a Ahmed, has charged corps employers to make the welfare and security of corps Members posted to their organisations one of their top priority.

Brigadier General Ahmed gave the charge in a message to the “2023 NYSC Corps-Employers workshop” in Umuahia, Abia State.

The DG represented by the Deputy Director Operations, South East Area Office NYSC, Mrs. Nkechi Ekezie, said the workshop was aimed at receiving feedback from strategic stakeholders on the strength, weaknesses and potentials of the scheme, as well as chart ways of strengthening its operations.

He noted that the workshop would dwell on appraising the contributions of corps members to national economic development,
stressing that the security, welfare and the overall relationship between corps members and their employers couldnot be over emphasized.

Earlier in an address, the Coordinator NYSC Abia State, Mrs. Ufuoma Dick-Iruenabere, said corps members being the cream of the Nigerian youths and having acquired some levels of education, if properly managed and adequately provided with the necessary tools, welfare packages and enabling environment, could become willing tools for national development.

She stated that the scheme does not joke with the health, welfare and security of corps members and urged corps employers to study the posting instructions as contained in the corps members posting letters to ensure strict compliance.
