PRIORITIZE SECURITY & WELFARE OF YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS — NYSC TELLS CORPS EMPLOYERS
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has called on corps employers to prioritize the welfare and security of corps members for quality service delivery at places of Primary Assignment.
He made the call during NYSC 2023 Corps Employers Workshop in Abakaliki.
Represented by the Deputy Director NYSC South East Zonal office, Mrs. Mary Chibueze, Brigadier General Ahmed said the Scheme was worried about some shortcomings on the part of Corps Employers.
This included delay in the issuance of monthly clearance to deserving corps members.
Other issues raised by the Brigadier General were aiding and abetting abscondment of corps members, lack of provisions of statutory welfare needs and poor treatment of corps members in work places.
He pointed out that NYSC management placed high premium on security of lives and property of youth corps members and urged corps employers to pay particular attention to the security and accomodation of corps members.
Ebonyi State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, described the theme of the workshop– “Enhancing the wellbeing of Corps members for optimal productivity” – as apt, especially now that their welfare and security were highly threatened.
Some of the corps employers, including Mr. Donatus Ibe and Mrs. Betty Emegha, described NYSC scheme as strategic in the development of the country.
They appealed to the Federal Government to increase the allowances of corps members to enable them to take care of their accomodation by themselves.
