ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY MOVES FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF MORE TECHNICAL SCHOOLS

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a motion calling on the executive arm of government to take steps towards encouraging more technical education in the state.
In a motion sponsored by the member representing Anaocha Constituency II, Chief Ejike Okechukwu, the law makers unanimously agreed that technical knowledge drives the world and is capable of reducing the level of crime in the society if well pursued.
The motion was the first as the House reconvened after a one month recess which they used to embark on oversight functions and familiarization tours of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies with a view to providing quality representation.
The sponsor of the Motion, Mr. Okechukwu noted that the state could achieve technological breakthrough by encouraging younger ones to learn technical subjects in schools.
Mr. Okechukwu who said that designated technical colleges were not as many as secondary schools in the state, noted that classical technical revolution would be experienced in the area that if the education system gradually shifted from theory based to skill based.
Supporting the motion, the member representing Njikoka Constituency two, Mr Jude Akpua described the idea of encouraging the young ones to embrace skills as timely, saying it would reduce the level of crime in the society when introduced in more schools across the state.
The majority Leader of the House, Mr. Ikenna Ofodeme noted that the state was already doing things in that direction by introducing one youth two skills programme, which had exposed many young people to learning various skills.
Other lawmakers, including Mr. Jude Ngobili, representing Ihiala Constituency; Mr. Anayo Okpalaeke representing Aguata constituency One; and
Mr. Kingsley Udemezue of Idemmili North constituency submitted that when technical education is properly introduced in school curriculum, it would result in the discovery of new technicians necessary for nation building.
The Speaker of House, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over plenary, commended the Governor for his friendly education policies so far.
He emphasized that the establishment of more technical education colleges in the state would reduce crime and improve the societal values of the people.
The House also received an audited account of the 21 local government areas for the year ended, December 31st, 2022.
