ABIA STATE GOVT ORDERS RETIREMENT OF PERM SECS, DIRECTORS WHO HAVE SERVED FOR 8 YRS

REPORTER: PEACE AGBO

Abia State Government has directed all Directors who have been in the position for over 8 years to proceed on Compulsory retirement within the next 3 months.

A statement by the state acting Head of Service, Ms. Joy Maduka, said the directive was part of the ongoing reform in the state’s civil service and line with circular No. HSA/S.0074/11/91 of August 1, 2011.

The statement explained that the government had approved that Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Service would only hold office for a term of four years but subject to renewal based on performance and maintained that Directors must compulsorily retire after 8 years.

According to the statement, the retirement approval is without prejudice and it urged all the affected Permanent Secretaries and Directors to begin their retirement procedures within the next three months or forfeit their retirement benefits thereafter.
