CONSTRUCTION OF FLYOVER AT ABIA TOWER TO COMMENCE IN FEW WEEKS — GOV OTTI

Abia State Government says it will construct a flyover at the Abia Tower of Peace on the Enugu/Port Harcourt Express Way to ease vehicular movements and part of plans to redesign the state capital.

Governor Alex Otti announced this during a thanksgiving service at All Saints Methodist Church Amuzukwu, Umuahia in honour of the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, and Industry Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, who escaped alleged assassination by unknown gunmen last month in Aba.

The Governor explained that the Tower of Peace would be relocated to Onuoimo, at boundary with Imo State.

This is to create way for a flyover as the expansion of Ossah road to Okpara Square to six lanes, which would lead to Umuahia with street lights and pedestrian crossing would commence in few weeks.

While expressing his appreciation to God’s blessings over the lives of Dr. Ukaegbu and his wife, the Governor described the Commissioner as one of the illustrious sons of the state found worthy to pilot a strategic ministry in his cabinet.

Earlier, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese, the Most Reverend Chibuzor Raphael-Opoko, who prayed for Dr. Ukaegbu and his wife, advised him not to forget God in his endeavours.

The Archbishop stressed that it was only God that could sustain and protect him even as a Commissioner in the state.

Archbishop Opoko bemoaned the terrible conditions Abia state had suffered and appealed to the present administration to improve on the infrastructural development of the state to better the lots of the residents.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, who narrated his experience in the hands of the men of the underworld, expressed thanked God for sparing his life.

He however expressed regret about the death of the two policemen in the attack and prayed God to console families of the deceased.

Unknown gunmen had on the July 25, 2023 attacked the convoy of the Commissioner while on official duty along SAMEC, Faulks Road, Aba, and killed two policemen with him.
