PROBE CBN’S NAIRA REDESIGN POLICY, SECURE FARMLANDS – ANALYST URGES TINUBU
REPORTER: Alfred Ajayi
A political affairs commentator, Chief Chidozie Ezeugwa, has called on President Bola Tinubu to initiate a probe into the implementation of what he called “failed naira redesign policy” of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under its suspended Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
Chief Ezeugwa argued in an interview with Radio Nigeria that such a move would help to ascertain how much was wasted on the policy, which in his view, rather plunged Nigerians into deeper economic mess.
He advised that the current administration must be decisive in decision making and do away with the old order of doing things so as to bring positive changes to the country.
“The naira redesign policy of the CBN worsened our economic problem prior to the general election. The huge amount of money spent on the implementation of the policy went down the drain.
“I was thinking that the present administration would have initiated a kind of probe into that. There must be sanity in our system. President Tinubu should create hope. Otherwise, we will not be wrong to think that his administration is a continuation of the past,” he submitted.
Chief Ezeugwa advised the president to formulate policies that would improve the nation’s negative economic realities and the living standards of its citizens.
“Involve Nigerians in the formulation and implementation of those policies. The government needs to earn people’s trust,” he advised.
Chief Ezeugwa noted that the unity of the country must equally be a top priority to the government.
“Let government look for competent technocrats who can help to turn around the economic fortunes of Nigeria. You can see the level of inequity in the country. Some have too much while other struggle to get anything.
“In a chaotic atmosphere, foreign investors are scared. The president must urgently work to reunite this nation.
“We have never been as divided as we are today. And as long as issues of equity, justice and fairness are not resolved, the crisis will continue.
“I don’t know if they are still waiting for the outcome of the judicial battle trailing the election. But, that is not the issue. It is most important to rescue Nigeria,” he argued.
For Chief Ezeugwa, addressing insecurity across the country would speed up economic recovery when food producers who had been scared away from farms were able to return.
“Millions of farmers have been sacked from their farms. This has contributed to food crisis that we have. I advise the President to stop at nothing to secure every part of this country.
“Then, the farmers will be productive and we shall have abundance and the cost of food will reduce drastically. This is urgently important,” he concluded.
