2000 YOUTHS TO BENEFIT FROM ON-LINE ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVPT TRAINING IN ABIA

About two thousand unemployed youths in Abia State are to benefit from online entrepreneurship development and knowledge economy to alleviate poverty.

Briefing journalists at the Government House Umuahia, the Special Assistant to Abia State Governor and Focal Person, National Social Investment Programmes, Mrs. Ifeoma Thomas, said the exercise was a scholarship programme which offered an E- learning opportunity for youths in the State.

Mrs. Thomas said the participants would be availed of the opportunity to acquire entrepreneurial development skills using resources on a self e-learning initiative website.

She stressed that the programme was to make all participants have access to stimulated entrepreneurship knowledge economy and various business ideas that would revolutionize their intellectual quotient.

According to the Special Assistant, the programme, which is in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ministry of SME and Digital Economy alongside some commercial Banks, is initiated in line with the wealth creation agenda of the present administration in Abia State.

While considering the socio-economic realities the country, Mrs. Thomas said there was the need to use knowledge economy as a tool to empower Abia youths to become job creators instead of job seekers.

Shading more light on the programme, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Chinedu Ekeke, said the programme was the first phase of the entrepreneurship training for Abia youths.

Mr. Ekeke noted that the State government was determined to empower young people with skills to earn better living.

The 2000 participants were drawn from the 17 local government areas of the state.
