REPORTER: EMEFIENA OKONKWO

A creative educationist the Rev. Fr. Cornelius Obe, has encouraged parents, schools and governments to help nurture the creativity in students and youths for technological breakthrough in the country.

The Rev. Fr. Obe, who is the Director, Mario Institute of Hospitality Management and Entrepreneurship Education, Uhunowerre, Enugu State, stated this while commenting on World Creativity and Innovation Day.

The educationist explained that though both terms (creativity and innovation) are often used interchangeably, Creativity and Innovation are distinct concepts that work hand in hand to achieve the desired end.

He noted that most notable inventions in the world, especially as it concerned machines, were not done by people with towering education qualifications and credentials, but people with creative mind and with the zeal to explore.

The United Nations formally established the World Creativity and Innovation Day to promote the importance of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development at the individual and group levels.

Creativity and Innovation are vital in achieving the sustainable development goals set out by the United Nations and to drive the economic growth and development of countries.

The theme of the 2023 World Creativity and Innovation Day is “Step out and Innovate.”
