N-KNOWLEDGE: FG TRAINS & EQUIPS 166 SOUTH EAST YOUTHS

The Federal Government has trained one hundred and sixty-six youths from the South East zone under its N-Knowledge Expansion Training Programme.

The beneficiaries were trained in Creative Script Writing, Hardware, Software and Animation during a three month programme,which took place at the Nigeria Police College, Oji River, Enugu State.

In a message to the youth at the closing ceremony, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq said the N- Knowledge programme was focused on equipping young Nigerians with relevant skills and certification to become competent workers, innovators and entrepreneurs prepared for both domestic and global market

Represented by the Focal Person, National Social Investment Programe in Enugu State, Dr. Innocent Ogbonna, the Minister noted that the Ministry was committed to ensuring that the strategic objectives of all the Federal Government Social Intervention programes were achieved and sustained.

Hajia Farouq explained that the training component was targeted at developing competencies of the youth in software development, hardware training, animation and creative industry, which was catalystic as well as the groundwork to make Nigeria compete in the outsourcing market for software.

In a remark, the Programme Manager, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), Enugu State, Mr. Benjamin Odo, called on the trained youths to make effort to become experts in their various trained fields even as he commended the Federal Government for introducing the programme, which was aimed at lifting millions of people out of poverty.

For his part, the Camp Commandant, Police College, Oji River, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Amos Opadoja, encouraged the beneficiaries not to sell the items given to them by the government but should exercise patience and endurance to start up from their little background.

The beneficiaries, drawn from the five south-east states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo were later presented with certificate of completion and starter packs to begin their business.
