POLICE CONFIRM KILLING OF EBONYI PDP LG CHAIRMAN

Police in Ebonyi State have confirmed the killing of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Ezza North Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Peter Nweke.

An witness account had suggested that Mr. Nweke was shot dead at his polling booth but the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Onome Onovwakpoyeya, told Radio Nigeria that he was dragged away by unknown persons and beaten to death on the election day.

He said police operatives rushed to the scene of the incident to rescue him but it was too late as he was confirmed dead in the hospital.

Radio Nigeria gathered that his remains had been deposited in the mortuary.

Late Nweke was not the only victim as many polling units in some wards in Ezza North were attacked and the polls marred by violence.

The Collation Officer in Ezza North, Dr. Chinedum Emenike, confirmed before the State Collation Centre that two INEC adhoc staff were brutalized while one person was stabbed to death during the Gubernatorial Election in the area.
