The Anambra State Government has condemned in strongest terms the recent killings linked to deadly cult-related war in Okpuno, Ifite and Obosi communities in Awka South and Idemili North Council Areas.

The President General of Obosi, Mr. Ike Okolo, was reportedly shot dead in a petrol station on Monday, 2nd January, 2023 by gunmen, while in Obi Maduka’s compound, within Nodu town square, Okpuno, gunmen killed four people identified as Onyiebo Okoye, Kenechukwu Okeke, Jude Ebenezar and Obinna Maduka.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo, in a statement condemned the killings, which he described as mindless, assuring the people that perpetrators would be apprehended and decisively dealt with, even if they had run out of town.

According to the Governor, Anambra has enjoyed the best Christmas ever in decades as it was traffic-free with a new system of traffic control put in place by the government during the festive season as Anambra Youth Volunteers and the State traffic management agency worked 24 hours at all the critical points to control traffic.

He noted that Monday, January 2, witnessed massive outdoor activities, as the State bubbled with activities all over unlike other Mondays which used to be observed as sit at home.

While restating government’s resolve to track down the cult groups involved in the gruesome killing, the governor appealed to law abiding citizens to go about their normal duties as the challenges were isolated cases that would be nipped in the bud soon.
