REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Ebonyi State Government has withheld the salaries of members of staff of its Ministry of Power over allegation that some of them were conniving with criminals to vandalize streetlight cables in the state.

This was one of the decisions reached at the state Executive Council meeting held at Government House Abakaliki.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Chooks Oko, explained that the Council resolved that the workers would not be paid their salaries until investigations into their operations were completed.

It also banned the activities of scrap dealers as well as the closure of their markets as vandalized cables and some property of the State Poultry Farm Complex located at Nkaliki were traced to them.

The state Executive Council also approved over #111,000,000.00 (one hundred and eleven million Naira) as cost of transportation and Christmas package for 1,270 one thousand, two hundred and seventy Ebonyi people living in Abuja and Lagos.

It also announced the renaming of Agabi Primary School Uburu as David Nweze Umahi University Primary School with the aim to raise the standard if learning in the school.
