ADDRESS CONSTANT MIGRATION OF PROFESSIONALS — ABIA RESIDENTS BEG GOVT

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

The steady migration of professionals from Nigeria to western countries is now a source of concern to some residents of Abia State.

Some of them, who spoke with Radio Nigeria, want the Federal Government to take drastic measures to reverse the trend.

One of them and former Chairman of Trade Union Congress, (TUC) in Abia State, Comrade Sunny Onwuma, said those leaving were being attracted by better working conditions, which were not available in the country.

He lamented that the impact was already being felt in many sectors, as many of those knowledgeable enough to make positive changes had left.

Another respondent, Pastor Henry Oriaku, said the medical sector was the worst hit as many seasoned professionals had either left or planning to leave, pointing out that it would be difficult to attract them back given the situation of things in the country.

Others, who made their voices known on the matter, urged the federal and state governments to look inwards and work towards improving the situation on ground to discourage those who were yet to migrate and possibly motivate those already out to consider coming back.
