ANAMBRA DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY ON ROADS, TO PROCURE ONE MILLION PALM SEEDLINGS YEARLY

The Anambra State Government has declared a state of emergency on road traffic in the state.

The Commissioner for information, Mr. Paul Nwosu, made this known to journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Awka.

Mr. Nwosu explained that the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ATMA) has been directed to deploy its men to all the heavy traffic prone areas in the state, including the building materials, Upper Iweka, and 3-3.

According to the Information Commissioner, the decision is to ensure an all round free flow of traffic.

He also warned that defaulters of traffic rules would be sanctioned.

Mr. Nwosu noted that the human capacity of ATMA would be improved upon through recruitment of more personnel and training by the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Army.

Mr. Nwosu promised that state government would repair all faulty traffic lights in the area.

The Commissioner for Information also explained that the State Executive Council adopted the policy on urban agriculture where every households would use every space on their compound in crop planting as a way of improving food production in the state.

He informed that government had agreed to transit from inorganic agriculture to organic or regenerative agriculture to improve the quality of food production.

Mr. Nwosu further said the State Ministry of Agriculture had received approval to procure one million palm seedlings annually and additional five hundred thousand seedlings as a way of renewing the old days of agriculture, which had been the main stay of the country’s economy.

He added that plans were ongoing to restructure and revamp the fire service by bringing it closer to the people
through the Anambra State Fire Service response app for easy accessibility.
