ENUGU STATE GOVT TRAINS 260 YOUTHS ON MODERN FARMING TECHNIQUE

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to identifying with the youths by bequeathing to them skills that would make them self-reliant and job providers.

He gave the indication while addressing more than two hundred young farmers from Enugu State sponsored by the state government, who returned from training in a special demonstration farm in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

The two hundred and sixty excited young farmers, as well as Reverend Sisters, were at the Government House to appreciate Governor Ugwuanyi for the opportunity his administration provided for them.

The Governor, who was represented on the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Simon Ortuanya, commended the young farmers for their comportment, dedication and discipline during the course of the training.

While urging the beneficiaries to utilize what they learnt and build on the foundation laid for them in agricultural value chain, he asked them to continue to support to policies of his administration in the areas of youth empowerment, rural development, sound education, quality and affordable healthcare delivery.

Presenting the graduating young farmers to the Governor, the Special Assistant to Governor Ugwuanyi on Agriculture, Mr. Michael Ogbuekwe, explained that what spurred the training was the need for agro- revolution in Enugu State, to be self-sufficient in food production, and get raw materials for the agro-industries.

He pointed out that the beneficiaries, who have successfully completed the training, acquired skills in modern agricultural techniques in accordance with his administration’s efforts to encourage and empower young farmers in the state to gain experience, and in line with international best practices.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr. Ikenna Ugwuanyi applauded Governor Ugwuanyi’s commitment to youth empowerment, and described the two weeks programme as rewarding and a new normal in their lives.
