ANAMBRA STATE RED CROSS CHAIRMAN CANVASSES TRUCE, DIALOGUE & RECONCILIATION AS SOLUTION TO NIGERIA’S SECURITY SITUATION

The Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, Professor Emeka Katchy, has expressed worry about the wanton killings, banditry and kidnappings across the country.
Professor Katchy made his feelings known during the commemoration of the 2022 World Red Cross Society Day in Awka.
Professor Katchy expressed regret that the spate of insecurity in the country had drastically reduced human value and decimated humanity.
He noted that the situation was a threat to national peace as conflicts and violence had forced millions to leave their homes and seek for safety elsewhere as internally Displaced Persons, especially in the northern part of the country.
The Red Cross State Chairman advocated truce, dialogue and reconciliation as panacea to the situation.
He also expressed concern about the recent killings of prominent personalities in a train attack on the Kaduna/Abuja road.
Professor Katchy, blamed government for acting slowly in apprehending the perpetrators, emphasizing that it was the responsibility of government to protect lives and property of its citizenry in line with the 1999 constitution as amended.
He pointed out that all hands must be on deck in providng truce for total conflict resolution, which would provide the foundation for lasting peace and reinforced sustainable development of the economy.
The theme of the 2022 celebration is, “Be human, kind to achieve truce and peace.”
